A portable fire extinguisher is one of the fire protection equipment that is required in buildings. It is meant for the building occupants to use to extinguish a fire at its initial stage.

There are various types of portable fire extinguishers with different extinguishing agents and fire ratings. The ‘dry powder’ fire extinguisher is commonly used in buildings and is effective against Class A (combustible solid) and Class B (flammable liquid) fires.

Fan Coil Unit (FCU)

A fan coil unit (FCU) is the indoor unit of a split air-c0nditioning system. The FCU contains the fan and the cooling coil.

Two common types of FCU are the wall-mounted unit and the ceiling cassette unit.

An emergency light (e-light) is an electrical light, fitted with a secondary power source, that is used to illuminate the escape route during a power failure.

Common terms for e-lights in Singapore would be Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse. Due to the similar resemblances to the cartoon characters (Illustrations above).

Discharge Stack (DS)

A discharge stack is a vertical pipe which conveys the discharge from two or more sanitary fixtures from the upper floors of a building down to the lower levels for subsequent connection to the sewer system.
